Navigating Ybor
Ybor City was designed as a factory town during the Cigar City era in the 1800s. Avenues run East-West, and streets run North-South. Avenue numbers start at Adamo Drive and increase as you move to the north. The Historic district begins at 13th Street to the west (by Hampton Inn) through 22nd Street to the East (by Columbia Restaurant). Everybody giving directions in Ybor will use Avenue and Street intersections to guide you. Bad Monkey is located on 7th Ave, between 17th and 18th Streets.
Getting from Downtown Tampa to Ybor City
Drive, Uber/Lyft/cab/hotel shuttle, or take the streetcar for the 10-minute trip to/from Ybor. The Tampa Streetcar is free of charge, and provides many stops downtown including Whiting Street, the Convention Center, Benchmark Arena, the Aquarium. Ybor stops are in central locations on 8th Ave. The closest stop to Bad Monkey is either Centro or Centennial Park. Each is about a 2-block walk to the bar. On busy days downtown, have a drink at Bad Monkey and take the streetcar for the short trip to events at the Convention Center and Benchmark Arena.
Parking Near Bad Monkey
There is convenient street parking throughout Ybor, as well as several parking lots and garages managed by the City through the Parkmobile app. The first 2 hours are FREE in City managed lots – just register your vehicle at the kiosk. The Ybor City parking garage provides covered parking 2 blocks from the bar, first two hours are free. There is also a parking lot directly behind the Monkey managed by 717. This lot is closest to Bad Monkey but also more expensive than City parking – significantly more expensive on weekends and for special events.
